Another
example of the exquisite artwork that comes out of Madagascar is their
inlaid woodworking. There is something ethereal about each unique piece.
It is truly the artwork of a master who contrives each piece. Each piece
of coloured wood is from a
differnent tree. No dyes or colouring are used. Planks of wood are often
buried in special mud for months to achieve the desired colour. The
plank is then lifted from the ground and delicately cut into the desired
shape. Each shape is fitted like a puzzle piece to create a masterpiece
of art. |
In
the Highlands of Madagascar lies the village Ambrositra, a throwback to
another era. In this world reside the Master woodworkers. They are proud
to offer to you a full array of their artwork. There are delicately
wrought boxes, tables, chairs and couches. There is also the famous
Malagasy five game box and of course their secret boxes – difficult to
know how to open. The wily mind of the Malagasy comes up yet with
another handicraft item to amuse you.
